A Gentleman
Two very different men stood in line in front of me at the grocery store today. The first was in his twenties, wearing flip flops, ripped shorts, and a hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head. He kept his eyes down, a somber expression on his face, and avoided eye contact. He was buying an onion and meat skewers.
The second was very old, dressed in a shirt and tie, gray dress pants, and the most stylish piece of all: a fedora hat with a feather. He had a sparkle in his laugh-lined eyes and a smirk on his face as he tipped his hat to me. He was buying milk, bread, fruit, and other wholesome groceries. I wanted to spend the afternoon with him and listen to the many stories he had to tell. Instead, I wondered about his life as I left the store with a smile on my face.

I also think that the first man had a tale to tell to; only perhaps we may not be smiling??
