Our kitty Juni

Juni as a statue
As I was debating on what to write my next entry on, our cat Juni began meowing excitedly. I figured he was trying to tell me something.

In June of 2007 Ryan and I decided to adopt a cat for our one year wedding anniversary. I thought adopting an adult cat would be best since kittens are a lot of work and Ryan was entering uncharted territory as a new pet owner. As luck would have it, a classmate at Ryan's medical school was putting 2 of her adult cats up for adoption. We both agreed Juni was the one. Not to mention how perfect his name was since we were married in June.  It was fate. Juni spent the first 2 days squished under our couch.  On day 3, he made his appearance and has been a member of our small family ever since.

Juni loves to eat. He sprints to the bowl, gobbles up his food, and sometimes makes himself sick, literally.  Following every meal, Juni has a very distinct meow.  It's very loud and very guttural, and it can mean one of two things: he's going to vomit, or he's about to go crazy. Of course we prefer the going crazy.  He sprints from room to room as fast as he can or becomes "the horse" because it sounds like a horse galloping around the house.  Yes, a horse.  Juni is a little heavy.  I like to think he's just a big boned cat, which he is, but ok I'll admit it, he's a tad overweight.  After he gallops he does his "trick." At our old house, his trick was leaping onto the stair railing and balancing on it like a tight rope. This is the main reason I miss our old house! I miss the tight rope walking cat! At our new house, he doesn't have a proper tight rope rail, so he makes due with a very small rail on the upstairs landing.  I used to have a picture of of the tight rope walking cat, but can't find it!

Yes those are Juni's man boobs
Most of all, Juni is my little buddy.  He follows me from room to room and talks to me the whole time. Juni loves to meow. He'll talk your ear off because, well, he's got a lot to say. We just wish he spoke English. Imagine the stories he'd have to tell! Juni is also the friendliest cat. His favorite activity is being brushed (a close tie with eating). It's easy to win him over, if you brush him (or feed him), he'll love you forever.  He also loves to sit in your lap, flop down and roll to show you how happy he is to see you, and sleep on Ryan or my legs every night.  Whoever is warmer, which is typically Ryan.

Juni in my lap
Juni has many nicknames (17 nicknames, we counted the other day) and many roles in our lives. He's a friend, a companion, a snuggler, a listener, a comedian, and so many more. Most of all, he's "our son" or "black baby" as Ryan likes to call him, and the third member of our family that wouldn't be the same without him!

  1. It was great to see Junebug again on our visit! Being a dog lover by nature, Juni is my favorite cat by far - he's just like a dog. :) He greets you when you come in and loves to follow you around and snuggle. Can't wait to see you all again!

  2. Juni always makes me feel very welcome on my visits, by snuggling with me during the night. I also enjoy his very talkative nature! He is such a good boy!
